The City of Santa Clara took another step toward more affordable housing with the completion of Kifer Senior Apartments, developed by Abode.org. At the grand opening, Housing Trust’s CFO Julie Mahowald mingled with some of the residents and shared her thoughts on the importance of creating safe and affordable housing opportunities for everyone. Some of our other team members were there to enjoy the day too.
The community, which consists of 79 affordable apartments and supports seniors and households earning 30-50% of the median income, received early funding from Housing Trust. The funding came through our TECH Fund, with Google as our capital partner, the County’s Measure A Supportive Housing Fund, and other sources to bring together the lending capital needed.
Our TECH Fund capital providers represent philanthropy and employers who lend us money at very low cost, so we can pass it on to our mission- driven developers like Abode.org to build beautiful, affordable communities like Kifer Senior Apartments.
