We had an amazing Grand Opening last week at Resources for Community Development‘s (RCD) Sango Court in the City of Milpitas, City Government! A beautiful residential development with 102 new affordable homes, it was amazing to see the project go from groundbreaking to grand opening in two years! Housing Trust is proud to have provided a construction/permanent loan for the project through our Apple Affordable Housing Fund. The support of partners like Apple is essential to our work to create desperately needed homes for our underserved neighbors.
Congratulations to RCD, and to the all the committed public and private partners who came together to bring this joyful new community to Milpitas. A very warm welcome home to our new neighbors!
As we celebrate this important milestone, we know that our region needs much more housing to fix the affordable housing crisis. Our hope is for more public and private financial resources and pro-housing policies that enable more housing to be built in shorter timelines, so that more of our vulnerable neighbors can have a home that they can afford. And a home that they can be proud of.
In November, we will have the opportunity to make a huge impact on the housing crisis by supporting a Bay Area regional bond measure. It’s an up to $20 billion dollar bond that has the potential to create up to 72,000 new affordable homes, more than double what would be possible without a bond.
