On December 16th, the homeownership team gave the last presentation of 2020 for Empower Homebuyers SCC – the down payment assistance program for first-time homebuyers created by the County of Santa Clara. When the first Shelter In Place order was given in mid-March, the team pivoted from in-person workshops to online – making 26 online Empower presentations since April. We’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of the new homebuyers the program helped create, including single mom Laura, who was able to buy a home for her family in the middle of a pandemic.
New promotional efforts and additional webinars are planned for 2021 with the first one on January 21st – cohosted by the City of Gilroy – and the first Spanish-language Empower webinar is on April 6.
