Today we were proud to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony for Veterans Square – a 30 home affordable housing development by SAHA (ICYMI the press release from this morning before the event is here).
We got to hear from Susan Friedland, CEO of SAHA, Contra Costa County Supervisor Federal D. Glover, Mayor of Pittsburg Jelani Killings, our own Pam Berkowitz, the Director of Multifamily Lending at Housing Trust, our friend James Vossoughi, Vice President, Community Development Banking at Chase, developer Meea Kang and Even Stewart, Vice President of Real Estate Development at SAHA.
We also got to hear from some Veterans who were in attendance, and it was one of those times when ‘thank a veteran’ isn’t a hashtag, but something you have the pleasure to say to a veteran in real life.
Masks were worn by all, and we discussed how good it feels to be out and doing something positive today, and were excited for the can’t-come-soon-enough grand opening which will change the lives of 30 veterans and their families for the better.
In addition to the Apple Affordable Housing Fund at Housing Trust, financing for the SAHA project is being provided by the City of Pittsburg, the City of Pittsburg Housing Authority, the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee, Contra Costa County, Raymond James Tax Credit Fund, Chase, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
A lot of hands get to go into the financing and creation of affordable housing, and we’re proud to be among them. We wish to thank all veterans for their service, and that we can all find a way to make sure each one has a safe, stable and affordable place to call home.
