Since Housing Trust started diversity, equity and inclusion work a few years ago, we’ve been trying to do more outward facing efforts for the communities we serve, such as creating fliers in multiple languages for our homeownership/down payment assistance programs, Empower Homebuyers SCC and H.E.L.P.
We are proud to take another small step in our DEI journey by having our very first Empower Homebuyers SCC informational webinar presented entirely in Spanish on April 9th. The registration link is here. We also have a PDF of the English-language flyer of the event and a Spanish-language version of the flyer available to share and download.
We are also premiering short promotional videos for Empower on YouTube in English, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese. Our director of homebuyer programs was asked to record in Spanish, our senior homebuyer programs specialist recorded in Vietnamese and our Filipino compliance specialist offered to record in Tagalog.
Producing these videos was nice way to collaborate with co-workers who haven’t been in the same room together in about a year – but more importantly, they present a new way to promote our belief that all neighbors – and we do mean all neighbors – have a chance to live in a safe and secure place that matters to them. We’ll keep looking for and implementing ways to put weight behind that belief as work towards a truly equitable Bay Area continues.
Note: this post was updated on June 7th, 2021 to reflect two key changes to Empower Homebuyers SCC that have taken place since March 2021: The household income limits to qualify for Empower have increased, and the maximum allowable purchase price for a home in Santa Clara County has risen from $800,000 to $1,100,000. If you’re a renter who wishes to become a first-time homebuyer and may need down payment assistance, please visit housingtrustsv.org/empower.
