Developer: Chinatown Community Development Center and Mission Economic Development Agency
Housing Trust Loan: $4 million
Proposed Units: 168
Population Served: Families, formerly homeless individuals, and people living with HIV
Congratulations to the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) and Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) on closing construction financing for Casa Adelante, a truly unique 168-unit community dedicated to serving households earning between 30% and 60% AMI! The project will also include 42 units for formerly homeless individuals and 5 units designated for those living with HIV.
Housing Trust is pleased to provide a $4,008,000 construction-to-permanent loan through our Apple Affordable Housing Fund (AAHF) support the project, which is located in San Francisco’s Mission District, and will be the largest new affordable housing project in the Mission in 20 years.
Casa Adelante will also create an intergenerational campus, as it is adjacent to CCDC/MEDA’s senior housing at 1296 Shotwell. The two sites will share a courtyard and resident services/programming.
The new community will feature an Early Learning Center with outdoor space, as well as a commercial area that will host a nonprofit organization serving the community. Residents will benefit from amenities such as laundry rooms, a computer lab, a teen recreation room, and a community room equipped with a kitchen. The project emphasizes sustainability with its all-electric design, including a rooftop solar PV power system, high-efficiency heat pump heating and cooling, and a stormwater catchment system. We are proud to support this vital project that enhances both community well-being and environmental stewardship.
The Apple Affordable Housing Fund (AAHF) is part of the comprehensive $2.5 billion commitment Apple made in November 2019 to help address the housing availability and affordability crisis in California. Apple’s commitment includes the $150 million Apple Affordable Housing Fund to Housing Trust Silicon Valley. Housing Trust implements the AAHF by making loans to qualified developers to help accelerate affordable housing construction across the Bay Area.
