Meet Kent from Leigh Avenue

Kent Brown of Leigh Avenue

Leigh Avenue, a First Community Housing development in San Jose, has been welcoming residents over the last few months. Our role in the creation of these 63 homes for seniors began with predevelopment lending made possible through our TECH Fund, and continued with a bridge loan and a liquidity line during construction. Our Finally Home program, which is funded by participants of the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot, provided security deposit grants to all 63 residents.

One of the residents is Kent, who we met serendipitously when stopping by Leigh Avenue for a visit. Having experienced homelessness for years, we asked what his first reaction was to Leigh Avenue:

“Gratitude. From the beginning, I make sure that I’m grateful every day, and that each day I try to earn it. I’m going to get a job. I’m job hunting. I went from hopelessness to having hope.”

– Kent, resident of Leigh Avenue
