Another Big Year for Turkey Trot

Housing Trust Booth 2019

On Thanksgiving Day – November 28th, 2019, the 15th Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot took place. About 23,000 runners came together to support five area nonprofits and experience a long and proud tradition of downtown San Jose.

For years Housing Trust has been among five area nonprofits – which include Health Trust, Healthier Kids Foundation, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz, and Second Harvest of Silicon Valley – to benefit from the proceeds of the Turkey Trot, which is created and produced by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation. To date, the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot has raised $8.7 million, helped raise 2.9 million pounds of food for hungry families, provided 60,000 vision screenings and 4,000 pairs of glasses for children, and helped over 3,700 individuals into affordable housing.

At this year’s event, several of us were happy to volunteer at the Housing Trust booth while a lot of our staff took part in the event. Our communications manager, on a trip to India, even registered as a remote runner and showed the Turkey Trot spirit in Hyderabad despite the twelve-and-a-half hour time difference.

Thank you again to all who have been longtime supporters and participants in the Turkey Trot – it is a valuable event not only for our Finally Home security deposit program, but provides a great sense of community to all who are lucky enough to call this region home.
